Reed plays the villain Pantomime season is clearly rubbing off with the pros on Tour as they played out their own hero and villain story in the rather luxurious surroundings of the Bahamas. Henrik Stenson played the starring role with victory in the Hero World Challenge by a single shot from Jon Rahm, but it was Patrick Reed who took on the role of the villain due to a rule infringement. On Friday, Reed’s ball was in the waste on the par-5 11th hole, but he twice brushed back the sand behind the ball during his practice swings. Under Rule 12.2b, a player must not touch the sand with the club when making a practice swing or a stroke and Reed was subsequently handed a two-shot penalty for the infringement for ‘improving his lie.’ Ironically, this led Reed to missing out on a shot of glory after ending the tournament two shots behind winner Stenson… Ouch.
